Wonderful Day in Dadhood Life
Some days just never go right no matter how hard you try to make it go right. Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe once something goes bad you try to counteract it and possibly over compensate a bit causing something else to go wrong. I guess I would have to agree to a certain extent but today most of the things that happened were not happening based on how I “felt”. These were real issues if you will.
For instance, I couldn’t browse the internet very well. I was trying to check in on my online business, make a few edits, and check emails but it took several minutes for my pages to load. This shouldn’t be happening on DSL right? Right! So I am like well I could run a disk scan and defrag. So while I was brewing my coffee that’s what I did. Still acted real sluggish. Almost worse than before. So it must be time for a reboot.
So while the computer reboots I am pouring my first cup of coffee, eating some nasty chocolate danish thing my wife picked up at Super Walmart… I think that’s where she got it.
Well the reboot didn’t seem to fix anything so I cleaned out my cache and temp files. Nada! I ran my anti-spyware and anti-adware software.. Nada again! Argh. So I run a full virus scan. Still Nada.
So while I am trying to figure out my next step I smell something weird, almost hot. I follow my nose to the basement. There is hot water gushing out onto my basement floor. I run like hell and turn off the furnace and shut the hot water valve leading to my water heater. Sheesh! Not another issue with the water heating system?!
So then there is no hot water until the repairman comes tomorrow. Crud! Well I guess I could let that ruin my day or just chalk it up as something I can’t really do anything about at the moment and live my life. Of course it is still in the forefront of your mind as you move forward. So I call Verizon, my current DSL Internet Service Provider.
After a few minutes of being passed around I get Tech Support and they have me do a couple tests. They make me reboot, turn my modem off and on and all the good stuff. Then after 20 minutes they tell me to try browsing. Still nothing. It is so slow I want to scream. It was so cold here last night I thought maybe the lines froze up but then heck all winter long I was fine haha
So listen to this. This is the kicker. The lady then tells me my area code has been having problems and that I need to just try back later. Like why couldn’t she have told me that when I first got on the phone and gave her my phone number? She had to make me do this and that, reboot, turn on and off the modem a few times. No it had to be a BIG frickin game and then she tells me in one sentence my area code has been having issues and that I will have to try back later. What the hell is that?
So I go watch TV, play with the kids, cook dinner, watch a little news, and BAM its back up. Browsing the Internet like nothing ever happened.
Too bad my water heater didn’t fix that easily.
