Upromise helps save for college
For those of you who are expecting to send your kids to college one day, you should sign up for Upromise. This free service earns you money for college in the course of your normal shopping. The most common avenue for earning money through Upromise is at supermarkets which have loyalty rewards cards that you swipe at the time of purchase. Certain products within these stores are designated as items for which you earn college savings when you buy. Your Upromise account is then credited with a small amount for each item you buy via your supermarket rewards card.
In addition to specifically designated products, you can also earn money when you use your credit or debit cards at participating retailers, all of which are listed on www.upromise.com. You can then roll this money over into a 529 savings account.
Join Upromise for free, and you can earn rewards for eligible purchases on groceries, gasoline, online shopping and more at over 40,000 participating retail stores and services. It’s a fast and simple way to start saving for college now. Family and friends can join and help out, too, by linking their rewards to your Upromise account.
I signed up about a year ago and since then have saved enough for 4.25 minutes of college based on the annual tuition I payed while in college. By the time my son gets to college it will probably be three times as expensive, so I’ve got that to look forward to. However, there is strength in numbers and I’ve started recruiting friends and family to sign up to have their purchases go towards my little sprout’s education. If you’ve got an account, you can invite friends and family to join by simply sending them an email through the Upromise website.
If any of you would like to join my friends circles and help with my kid’s college education, leave me a comment or contact me at bill.fezzie [at] b5media [dot] com with your email address and I will send you an invite. I see none of your personal information and it costs you nothing. Even if it’s not me, there’s no reason not to help save for someone’s college education.
