Tips to help kids sleep longer
The Associated Press has an excellent list of ways to help kids sleep longer. It covers things like temperature, activity and schedule.
Compiled by Doctor Stephen Sheldon from Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital and Jodi Mindell, author of “Take Charge of your Child’s Sleep“, the list provides some great guidelines to make your kids are well rested. I know that I’m grumpy and less productive when tired, so I may try a few of these myself.
Ones that I find key, even for adults, include:
Tags: biological_clock, jodi_mindell, stephen_sheldon, wake_up_timeELECTRONICS: Keep TVs, cell phones, computer games and other electronics out of the bedroom.
WAKE TIME: The biological clock resets in the morning, so it’s just as important to have a consistent wake-up time as a consistent bedtime.
OVERSCHEDULING: Consider limits on activities that crowd out slumber. Keep it to one sport per season, for example.

From my own experience while growing up (and without reading the article yet), I find that swimming is a good exercise to tire ourselves out.
It’s a low impact sport, good for this getting-on Daddee! Seriously, I am having knee problems already in my mid-30’s where 2 years ago I was playing tennis & inline-skating regularly.
Even now with Caitlin, whom can’t really swim yet but only splashes around & dog paddle in her floaties, gets to rest fairly easily at nights.
Of course a reduced afternoon nap will also help the kid sleep better that night, but that’s more like sleep-deprivation induced.
