The Little Giant Ladder
You know… with the ability to be home a lot of the time, it gives you more of an opportunity to do home repairs. Well, ok maybe not more time when you are watching the kiddos, but you can at least think about home projects and then work on small jobs during nap time and in the evenings. But thinking about a lot of the things that need to get done I focus a lot on what would make my projects that much easier, and using the proper tools. Nothing like trying to do a good job with lack of sufficient tools.
This leads me to the Little Giant Ladder System. Now I have an old house and there are tons of things I need to do all of the time. What would make my life easier is simply this ladder. It comes as a ladder but I should probably add an “s” to the end of that because for those of you who are familiar with this thing, it is many ladders all rolled up into one.
I have not yet bought this thing. My wife would rather me risk my safety using an old shaky heavy ladder than get pleasure from a new one, but that is beside the point, another article within itself. But I am always changing lightbulbs in weird places, painting the outside of my house, replacing clapboards, and fixing windows. With this ladder you get the following features:
-Heavy-wall aircraft-grade aluminum construction
-Rated to hold up to 250 lbs.
-Combines 24 different ladders into on convenient system
-Lightweight and portable
-Complies with all applicable OSHA ANSI A14.2 standards
-Made in the USA
-Includes a full 5-year warranty
Ok so who here has one of these? If so, are they what they are all cracked up to be? Is it worth spending a little more money on this thing?

My family used to own a ladder and scaffolding business, believe it or not. Hands down, the Little Giant is the best ladder ever made.
It’s not cheap but it WILL last you a lifetime.
The accessories make the ladder even more versatile, allowing it to be a small scaffold system.
If cost is a big factor, you can find a knock-off at one (or both) of the Big Box DIY centers (they rhyme with ‘Gnome Weepo’ & ‘Rows’). It’s called the “gorilla”.
I will take a look at it the next time I’m there and make sure that it’s still comparible in structural integrity and versatility.
Oh, by the way, a little known fact is that the ladder is tested to withhold 4x the weight it’s rated for…which means that it can safely handle a 1000lb load…they just don’t want people overdoing it!

I’ve used a Gorilla ladder and it also is all it’s cracked up to be. It doesn’t have the fancier parts like the step/paint can holder but it is structurally just as good as the little giant. It’s a little heavier than the little giant as well, but still an excellent ladder and is only just a little over half the price.
