The Dangers of the Internet
Many parents fear for their children’s safety while the kids are on the Internet. However, it is apparently dangerous for kids while the parents are on the Internet.
A man in Queensland, Australia was surfing the net when some loon walked into his house, picked up his child and walked out. Luckily the thief was not successful.
“…the father of the house was on the computer and heard a noise and turned around to find a male carrying out his three-year-old son,”
It’s not a joking matter, but just another example of just how lost you can become while on the computer.

That kind of story makes me so angry. My father-in-law has this stupid habit of leaving my front door unlocked whenever they visit. Drives me crazy. He used to leave my garage open too until the stupid thing broke. (It’s been 6 months and I haven’t bothered to fix that.) He has such a nervous habit of going out and coming back in a dozen or more times during a visit. Run to the car to put something in. Run to the trash can to put a small bit of rubbish out. Whatever.
I’ve asked many times over the years to be sure to keep my doors closed and locked. Partly because I didn’t want my young sons wandering off and partly because walk-in robberies are a real threat. I got to the point of insisting this must be done. My wife won’t back me up. She’s guilts too of leaving our cars constantly unlocked.
It’s the only rule I ask of my house guests. Everyone thinks I’m overreacting. But that’s my pet peeve and I think it’s entirely reasonable to have my house secure at all times.

I wonder… would he have even noticed if the three year old had just walked out of the house?
