Studies Show Stay at Home Moms Differ From Dads Who Stay Home
One of the more touchy topics regarding parenting is the question of whether or not working fathers can build a strong bond with their children. I always wonder if I would be this close to my own kids if I were out pulling 40-50 our work weeks. In an article written by Jeremy G. Schneider at the Daddy Place Blog he touches on some key issues.
There was a study done in the late 1990’s that compared Stay at Home Dads with Stay at Home Moms and found a lot of similarities. But there were a lot of differences. This was the first step. So what were some of the differences they found?
-SAHD tend to do the same household chores at home as a SAHM would, but they also continue to do more stereotypical male responsibilities like mowing the lawn, etc.
-63% of SAHD felt isolated compared to “only” 37% of SAHM
-When dad is at home, working mothers knew their children’s schedules while when moms are at home, working fathers rarely know their children’s schedules.
But there is an interesting finding about children who wake up in the middle of the night scared, or had a bad dream. With Stay at Home Moms 80% of all cases the child runs to find mommy. But with Stay at Home Dads the child is just as likely to go to mom as they would the father. So what does this tell you? Is there more of a bond happening between the father and the children if he is the one who stays home? Of course this is a general study and not case per case.
There are some other interesting points in the article you will most likely find interesting. Go read it
