I really enjoyed reading your post on “Shaving with the Baby.” I loved hearing about how you carved out special time to be with your baby and turned a time that you didn’t really care for, into a positive thing for both you and your child.

Yeah I’m first!! == does the number one ever get picked on a random generator I wonder?
Clowns are creepy (officially) == that has got to be my favorite post! But really they could have saved their money and just asked me that question, and I could have given them the same answers with a lot less time spent. Clowns are creepy. It’s a fact.

I like your article about getting your kids to brush their teeth. I have two kids. My daugther THANKFULLY does a decent job, esepcially because she has braces ($$$$$$$ as you all know). My son whose 8 still does a horrible job. He’s even had a cavity when he was 6!!!! It was a baby tooth but none the less we had to get it filled and everything. He does such a HORRIBLE job! I have tried to get him to do the ABC’s too but he doesn’t. We tried egg timers, bribing him… anything and everything we can think of. But nothing works. Not even hearing the dental assistant tell him how important it is. Sigh….. I wish there was a trick to it to get it to work.
BTW… I LOVE the hard drive. I keep A LOT of grahics and photos that I take and this would be so helpful.

My favorite is about sleeping seven hours. I am so jealous! I think that has only happened half a dozen times in the last three years! My son just canNOT sleep through the night. The post about clipping fingernails was funny too. I had a similar experience while nursing. Ouch.

I liked reading “Crucial lesson learned #1, sub-part A” because my husband and I can totally relate. He’s in the military and so he has to look sharp and shiny for work everyday or he gets to do some push-ups. :) He’s told me many times that he can’t hold the kids while he’s in his work clothes. I reply that since he wears his camouflage BDUs most of the time, no one would notice a little spit up or urine or breakfast cereal here or there. :) Okay, he’s looking over my shoulder and is really excited about this giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win.

Crucial Lesson Learned #2. I have not been able to wear a pair of khakis since becoming a mother without the kids wiping stuff on them or barfing on them, and khakis love to hold stains. Also, I got scratched a lot by my kiddos nails in the beginning, but I was so scared to trim them because if you go even the tiniest bit too close, they bleed. I think baby emery boards are a lot safer for that, and then my kids stopped scratching my face and their own. My guy would love to win the external hard drive, so I’d love to win it for him! Thank you for the chance.

I like the post entitled “Thinking about Having Kids?” I was just speaking with my doctor this morning about thinking about them… but of course they left out the getting to smell the head of a newborn while rocking them at four o’clock in the morning… that makes at least a little bit of the horribles go away, doesn’t it?

My first son didn’t sleep either. My wife used to sleep on her back and move him breast to breast so that it would at least be quiet enough for us to sleep…. funny huh… This comment relates to “slept” for 7 hours. By the way Christmas Eve after he was born - he slept 8 hours and we kept going to see if he was OK…. and didn’t get to sleep then either!!

I LOVE the “Should we be teaching 1st graders about Global Warming?” post. I had a very similar discussion with a friend the other day! It’s amazing that people think it’s okay to teach a controversial and complex topic to children too young to really grasp it…
My four-year-old gave me a hard time the other day because she wanted to “recycle” her green beans to help the earth. She said her teacher told her we had to recycle things and she couldn’t eat them for that reason. Somehow I think she’s missing the point!

I smiled at your sleeping for 7 hours. My own kids are grown now. First they were infants and I didn’t sleep. Then they were young kids and did sleepovers and I didn’t sleep. Then they were teens and I didn’t sleep until they were home at night. Seven hours is WONDERFUL!!!

http://www.insidefatherhood.com/role-reversal-or-is-it/
(Role Reversal in case it cuts me off).
My husband wasn’t a SAHD. But, he was a hands-on dad. We are constantly annoyed by people who are surprised that he knows how to change diapers. Or, when I’d go out and they would say “Dad is babysitting.” Hes NOT babysitting, he’s home with the kid(s). Isn’t that what a parent is supposed to do? My sons are 20 & 14, and people are still surprised that he can take a crying baby & calm it down and change a diaper while talking on the phone.
He’s such a better housekeeper than I am, I wished that I made enough for him to be a SAHD.

My hubby didn’t even help me in the middle of the night eventhough he started at 9AM for work.

“Shaving with the baby” was my favorite. You took what would otherwise be just a mundane task - a daily hassle, really - and turned it into some special time with your son. That’s beautiful! Kids grow up so fast and we have to grab all of the special moments with them that we can. I know with my own kids sometimes it’s hard for me to recognize those opportunities when I see them. I also think Dad time is important for kids and it’s nice to read about other fathers who genuinely enjoy spending as much time with their kids as possible.
Great post! It made me smile.
