Planned Family TV Night
Sometimes I think it is a great idea to plan a weekly TV program that is suitable for the kids and watch it. In our house we try to keep the TV at a minimum but planning for special TV time can be a lot of fun and very entertaining. That night we may order out for pizza or cook up something fun. We try to mix it up a bit. Then we pop popcorn. Unfortunately there isn’t much on TV right now that we feel is a good fun family show.
We used to plan to watch the shows Alias and Lost when they were on Wednesday nights back to back. Then Alias got canned and we just started watching Lost. Now it is difficult to plan around it because the kids need to be in bed around 8pm because of school and the show doesn’t come on until 10pm.
Are there any shows you plan to watch with the family and make a fun evening out of it?? I sure would like to hear anything you guys do. I would like to get some ideas so we can start doing it again. We rent movies through Netflix that might be fun instead.
Do you have family TV night?

We try to have a movie night every week. During it we watch a cartoon movie (the kids are only 4) and have a picnic dinner on the floor. We haven’t been able to set a specific night. We just try to do it on a convenient night for that week.

The kids loving This Old House with Daddy on Saturday mornings. It airs first round on Thursday nights, but we always have friends over that night. It re-airs Saturday, and the kids get a kick out of watching it with Bald Man. I’m usually trying not to wake up. :)

I meant to say “The kids love watching This Old House…”
I really can write most of the time. :)

We have movie nights most Fridays and Saturdays.
During the summer we’ll have more. We rent through Netflix too, and I have to plan ahead to get the right movies arriving for the weekend.
The only over-the-air TV shows we watch together are Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and America’s Funniest Videos.
Everything else is on DVD. TV shows that we’ve watched on disc as a family: Looney Tunes, Brady Bunch, Andy Griffith, Little House.
My wife and I watch Lost and Prison Break after the kiddies are asleep. I watch 24, Battlestar Galactica, Survivor, and Amazing Race (all by myself, because the wife is bored with these shows).
That’s about it for us on the TV front. I can’t get into other shows because there’s just not enough time.

Yes! Lost is finally going the way of Alias. Both shows were ok to start, but like Alias, Lost should have been canned long before it was.
24 is much better as Phil could certainly attest to.
