Organics for pregnancy, fetal and child health

by Bill on September 17th, 2007

Fruits and vegetables are a significant element of good pregnancy nutrition. My wife and I always try and make sure she gets enough of each to make sure the little sprout (baby) is properly nourished and growing strong. As a step towards that end we decided to have some apples last night, albeit in pie form and at 11:30 PM.

She typically eats a very well-balanced diet packed with fresh grown goodies, and is very conscious of what happens to food between garden, grocery and table. Pesticides used in agriculture can be harmful during pregnancy and are present on most fruits and vegetables not explicitly marked as organic or pesticide free. Those fruits with thinner, more porous skins are more likely to absorb chemicals which in-turn are ingested and could potentially affect the health of your child.

Even for adults, the chemicals used to treat fruits and vegetables can be harmful over time. The major drawback of eating organics is usually price and availability. However, DeliciousOrganics.com has a list of the top produce to buy organic. This will help steer you towards which organics are higher priority than others.
