Netflix - The Gift That Keeps on Giving

by steve on November 29th, 2006

Netflix, Inc.

Looking for gift ideas? Why not try Netflix? If you aren’t sure what it is then it is time you learn.

Netflix – Rent, watch and return DVDs from home – Try free for two weeks

I have been doing Netflix for over a year now and have had minimal problems. At times my mail service is slow but the actual Netflix service is superb and the website is rated like #1 for user friendly. You just browse online in their movie archive and under each movie there is a Add button. You click on it and it gets added to your queue. You can rearrange your list as often as you wish. I have like 200 movies currently in my list and if the movie isn’t out yet you can save it so you won’t forget and then when it becomes available it pops into your queue.

There are no late fees, you keep 3 movies at a time for however long you want. Whenever you ship a movie back they send out the next one on your list and on and on it goes…

Now you have the opportunity to buy a subscription for other people. You can purchase them a one month subscription, 2 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12… you name it.

My wife got that as a present a few years back and loved it. She used to watch movies while running on the treadmill. We got rid of it now that we go to a gym, but their service worked great for us.

We’ve had NetFlix for a year now. Absolutely no problems. The movies come from a local warehouse, so the turnaround is two days. Mail a disc back on Monday, they get it on Tuesday and mail a new one out, then we have it on Wednesday. It takes a bit of planning on my part to get the right movies, like a couple of kids movies for the weekend, TV shows for the grown-ups during the week.

We don’t have cable, but watch all the good TV series on DVD. CSI, 24, Dead Zone, Lost… Much more fun to watch them all at once, and without commercials.

Mike how come you still don’t do it? I sometimes find I am pressured to get the movies returned even though there are no late fees.

Phil, I watch a lot of TV and miniseries stuff on Netflix. No commercials is wonderful. And I don’t get cable either so Netflix tends to help releive any of those tensions of me possibly missing anything that is good. I watched Band of Brothers and Firefly on Netflix for the first time.

I can pause and go pop my popcorn! :D

We just don’t really watch enough to make it worth while these days. We started a once a night movie night with the kids, so maybe we’ll sign up when we get tired of watching the same videos over and over.

The only hard part is hearing about great new shows like NBC’s Heroes, and having to wait until next fall for the DVD release of this current season. But, practicing a little patience is a good thing.

I did netflix for a long time. Then I discovered blockbuster online. I pay $6 a month and get 1 movie at a time, in addition to weekly in-store rentals. I watch the same # as I used to with Netflix for a bit less the biggest difference is that it’s 1 at a time- biggest benefit- impulse movies- perfect for the kids! Still no postage or late fees.

I gotta say, it totally rocks.

Don’t you get one or more free in-store rentals with the blockbuster plan? I think I read that somewhere.
