How to Deal with Bullies on the Playground
How do you deal with kids fighting at school or on the playground during recess? Have you ever run into this problem where your child was fighting at school? I remember my own daughter wasn’t really fighting but she felt bullied by another girl in her class it made her sick.
Hlei over at Cotton Timer lists out some really good advice pertaining to kids fighting on the playground and how best to deal with the situation.
When I was in school I wasn’t ever really bullied so I haven’t had much experience first hand when it comes to being pushed around. But what if your child was the bully? Would you recognize it? I know some parents who think their children are angels and could never do wrong. Are you that parent?
Here is the list in a nutshell but make sure to go read the list in full:
1. Remember kids will lie to please their parents
2. Show understanding but confirm the facts
3. Talk to the teachers
4. Don’t make a scene
5. Do not exaggerate
6. Be logical
7. Children do get bumps and scratches on the playground so don’t make a big deal out of something little
8. Teach your child to defend themselves
9. Let your child know that the teachers are on their side
10. Take your antidepressants and antipsychotic medication every day.

I love the clipart you picked for this post. I hope all parents will recognize that it’s no use getting hysterical over incidents at school. Be logical and calm knowing that children will practice being the victim and the bully at different times throughout their lives. I know many people have had much more serious bullying problems but I hope that the majority of cases can be resolved peacefully when parents on both sides are caring and understanding.

Getting hysterical does no good.
As a teacher, I am very protective of the students. I do not and have not ever allowed name calling or bullying. I nip it immediately! I was bullied a little in school (not terribly bad), so I guess I am a little sensitive to it. Plus, if you let things go, it will only become worse. I even get on to my preschoolers for saying things like, “I won’t be your friend anymore.” No, I don’t try to solve their problems for them, but I am trying to teach them to be respectful of one another.

It’s important to know how much attention to pay to such incidents, to teach our children not to take all that pointless torture from them and to speak out so that their voice may be heard and something be done about it
