Fetus, you come down here right now
I can already tell that my unborn son is going to be like me, for little reason other than the fact that he’s late at an inopportune time. He’s all but run out of room, or more aptly run out of womb but appears in no hurry. My wife is a hormonal, uncomfortable, emotional and anxious, yet he takes his time.
I took my wife for a drive last night to get her out of the house and distract her for a while, and I tried to hit every pothole and bump in the road along the way. We tried some pressure point stimulation and even raspberry tea, which, strangely enough is rumored to trigger contractions. Nothing. He’s taking his time and he doesn’t appear easily persuaded to care who’s waiting. I thought that a personal appeal might work because, as we all know, fetuses read blogs. (Thanks, iPhone.)
Baby, this is Daddy. I was wondering if you could do me and mom a favor and just start making your way towards the exit. She’s very uncomfortable and if you grow much more we’re going to have to get her a scooter to travel around on.
It’s not that bad out here. You’ve got a brand new room, people who love you and an ingeniously packaged food source, so please make your appearance soon. I’d call you by your first and middle names to make it sound like I mean business, but we haven’t picked them yet so hopefully a ‘please’ will suffice.
We can’t wait to see you.

My wife is scheduled to be induced on Saturday if he decides not to make an appearance before then, but any moment sooner does not seem soon enough.

We just got back from the doctor. She’s due saturday, but would love to induce yesterday…but the doctor said just wait. Next thursday by the latest, then will induce.
She’s down right now.

This is the first and ultimate way that babies train their parents. You aren’t in the drivers’ seats of your own life any more…the baby is and will be there for a very, very long time.

Cute! I couldn’t help but laugh - remembering my own day of nearly needing a scooter before the twins were born.
This is such a fun time for both of you. The anticipation - anxiety - all leading up to the big show.

I feel for your wife! (And for you, too - it’s no easier waiting with her, I know!) I hope you meet your baby SOON! And again, congratulations!
A couple of other ideas are spicy food and a strong balsamic vinaigrette (that’s the dressing on a salad that’s locally known for getting labor going). Good luck!!!

Hang in there! The good news is that you might be able to get a full night’s sleep again sometime in 2009!
