The Unborn Ultimatum

by Bill on August 6th, 2007

I took my fetus to the movies this weekend to see The Bourne Ultimatum. Mom tagged along. I felt like I was sneaking an extra person into the theater because the kid essentially got in for free by hiding out in the womb. One could argue that the kid didn’t actually see the movie, but he clearly experienced it.

I personally love action movies and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Apparently so did he. Every time there were fight scenes or car crashes the baby would kick (or punch) my wife, in a fashion similar to Matt Damon as he ripped through international assassins. Why would the baby move so much during the movie? Because my baby likes action, that’s why!

It may also be that he is starting to hear and process external sounds, which I find completely amazing. I think this clearly points out that from the earliest of ages you not only need to watch what you say around children, but how you say it. If an unborn child responds to audible stimuli, so will young kids.

We had a similar experience. We went to see Spiderman 2 when Annabeth was still in the womb - at one point the there was a sudden burst of dramatic music and Bethy jumped! The movement was emphatic as far as Katherine was concerned - she felt a little bit worried, like maybe her unborn child had been frightened, at least startled.

It is amazing, like you say.

The unborn Ultimatum - very witty :D

I went through the same thing. Before the twins were born, ALL four feet were under my left rib — their father and I went to hear a local band we both enjoyed. I was ready to leave by the end of the first set. It was not pleasant at all :)

Ainsley had a major blast at the Madonna concert in utero. She danced the whole time.

I found Iused the F word without consequence for at least two years after the first one was born. Now, not so much.

I love this - “I took my fetus to the movies this weekend to see The Bourne Ultimatum. Mom tagged along.” Brilliant writing!

Actually when I was pregnant I always felt like I had one of those creatures from Aliens ready to burst out of me anytime.
